Psychometric wish list
27/10/2009, Author: Kieran Harris

I have just finished reading an interesting article in the last issue of People Management entitled 'Time is of the essence' which explored the key trends in assessment at the moment. Some of our fellow professionals also commented on what they have been observing, and what they predict will happen in the next 5 years or so
We all know that cost cutting and the return on investment is a key consideration for many at the moment and there are predictions around the increasing use of online tools to help companies out here – for example, one professional predicts that in 5 years many companies will hold assessment centres online, with candidates taking part remotely.
The article also discusses some other future trends:
• more online situational judgement tests
• an increased uptake in assessments being used for induction and development programmes
• more tests being used to identify ethical leaders.
It is very interesting to hear professional opinions however I would also be interested to hear from those on the front line, who are using these tests on a regular basis to hopefully help them solve their recruitment and/or development challenges.
To these people I pose the question – if you could have one wish for how you would like to see assessments develop over the next 5 years what would it be? What changes and innovation would make your life easier? Feel free to be creative as you wish!

Hi Kieran, Good question that you pose at the end of your blog. We are keen that the candidates have a good experience, and are conscious that it can become quite boring and time-consuming for candidates completing a lot of the assessment online - and if they are applying to more than one company they could be facing similar tests and questions. A fun interactive way of testing, using technology solutions - especially mobile! - something to differentiate the application experience - that's all!
